QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSIONS

OCS welcomes any young person who desires a character-building education.  As a Seventh-day Adventist Christian school, it is expected from all who attend to aim for high moral principles, and respect for God and others.  Students need to realize that when they present themselves for admission to OCS, they thereby willingly pledge to observe these expectations.  Behavior contrary to this may forfeit a student’s privilege to attend.

ADMISSION STEPS

Step 1Application Packet – The application packet will contain (titles with underline indicate a downloadable file if clicked on):

  • Application – This form asks for basic information such as name, address, parent information. It is very important that this information be filled out correctly as it is used to contact parents, student(s). This can be obtained either through the school or online at oics.org.
  • Parent Volunteer – this will give us an idea about what areas each parent feels they can help in at the school. Because the tuition at OCS is fairly low, the need for parent volunteers is a necessity.
  • Parent-Student Contract– There are several different parts to this contract: Motor Vehicle Agreement, Internet Agreement, and School Attendance Agreement.
  • Medical Release – Gives OCS authorization to administer emergency care and/or contact a medical care provider on behalf of your child(ren).
  • Academics – OCS will need to have a copy of your latest report card.

Once the application packet has been filled out and returned to OCS, an interview will be scheduled with the student and parent.

Step 2Interview Meet with the principal and Acceptance Committee to answer any questions students/parents may have, and that OCS may have to make sure that OCS will be a place to help your student succeed.

Step 3 – Acceptance LetterA letter of acceptance will be sent out within five business days of interview.

Step 4 – Enrollment – Things that are needed to enroll a student:

  • Educational Payment Agreement – There are several plans to pay tuition. Also lists cost for Registration Fee (not covered by scholarship). Must be filled out and signed before your student can be enrolled at OCS.
  • Immunization Records – These must be up-to-date or have a Certificate of Exemption
  • Birth Certificate – Must have this for reporting purposes (state, conference, Canada field trips)
  • Academics Release Grade report form for K-8 but must be official transcript from prior school for grades 9-12.
  • Copy of Insurance card (if have insurance) – For Medical Release form
  • Hot Lunch Free/Reduced Application – Fill out and return to the main office. This can determine with the State whether you can receive free/reduced meals.

To be admitted to Kindergarten, the student must be five years old by August 31.
All students must confirm their immunizations are up to date with current Washington State standards and have medical releases signed for the current year.

30 DAY REVIEW
Every new student is subject to a 30-day review period to evaluate conduct, behavior, classroom contribution, tuition, academic performance, and successful integration into student life.

LESS THAN FULL TIME ENROLLMENT
Students may be considered for less than full time enrollment.  Factors may include class size, teacher acceptance, class continuity, those students who live on other islands, and suitable financial arrangements.  Parents or guardians are encouraged to supplement and reinforce each student’s education away from school by being involved and partnering with your teacher.  The common goal is for every student to obtain not just competency, but mastery of their subjects and studies.
